Very 30s Ginger

There was some random typing right on top of that dark jacket that I tried very hard to Photoshop out... not so easy. :/

GF

For some reason, I seem to end up being the object of jesting bordering on torment, which has led me to a new post here.

This is a very gaffish (not the bad sense of the word, or acronym, everyone's favourite thing) fusing of two photographs. ONE of which Maria coloured on her blog!

It's bigger that this normally. You can click if you want to see it full size.

I'LL POST MORE ASAP.

Are you trying to mock me here?

Some Comments on Finishing School

First of all, I finally watched another movie!
I've had Finishing School for about 4 months and I just watched it for the first time.
The movie had a very Romeo and Juliet feel because of the class differences and blatant opposition towards the working class, coming from the old 'fluff.' I enjoy Billie Burke's performances; she always seems a bit frazzled as far as I've seen (with the exception of The Wizard of Oz).
Near the end it got a little psychological, and I thought that old schoolmarm (Beulah Bondi) was going to try to sedate Virginia (Frances Dee)!
The father (John Halliday) only appeared in the movie when he needed to balance mom's insanity, but thank goodness he was there! I'd get too stressed out watching this movie if it was Virginia and Mac (Bruce Cabot) against everyone else.

Well I think I addressed everything.

Lauren

PS I'm kidding.
Ginger's part was fairly small and static, but she projected some of her usual attitude. For some reason, however her make up was done or something, her face sort of looked like how she looked as little Su-Su in The Major and the Minor. It may be the absence of lipstick. Anyway, her character seemed like some of her other best friend characters, before she started getting more leading roles. And though she was nice to Virginia, she wasn't around enough to be very helpful. Oh well, she was cute as usual and I saw some nice outfits in there!

PPS This post is dedicated to Huey, as my first post since the commencement of escuela!

I had to revise my goal, to fit the fact that I did not find all the movies by today. :(

Must Watch NEVER GONNA DANCE

I get the urge to watch Never Gonna Dance, A LOT. I'm sure most if not all of you know why. I was really upset I could never get it to YouTube, so to ease the pain I am putting it HERE on my blog. If any of you ever get the urge to watch and don't want to rummage for your copy of Swing Time, here you go!

Out Of Time

I think I've found what I will find for now for Ginger. I say I did a fairly good job. I'm starting school in a week, moving in this weekend, so that really doesn't give me much time to search out the remaining movies.
I'm also not in the best shape right now because I am taking some antibiotics which are 'one of the safest.' The only possible side effect is maybe feeling nauseous, and of course, I feel terribly nauseous after taking it.
I will be lying down and watching a movie.

Queen High (1930)

Contrary to one review on IMDb, I really enjoyed this movie! As a normal person who is not a seasoned film critic, I just paid attention to the plot and I found it fun and entertaining. While I was slightly disappointed that Ginger's story lacked in development towards the end, I loved how all the characters seemed like they were always having a good laugh. The laughs appeared very natural which always makes the scene funnier for me. It is worth the look if you are interested in Ginger and/or very small pre-code touches.

Ice Cream Flavours

Upon discussion about Ginger's favourite ice cream flavour, I threw a poll together to see what people thought. This may just lead to moving any further ice cream discussion to this post, but that's okay. We'll organize, here. The answer choices are really just plain ones and ice cream flavours I like (my favourite being peppermint) since I honestly have no idea what flavours Ginger enjoyed. If anyone is still curious I can attempt to find more info. Actually, it's really not necessary to vote. The poll is quite bogus actually, just leave a comment here if interested.

2 More In Possession

I've now gotten a hold of Queen High (1930) and The Sap From Syracuse (1930). Very excited! And I'm actually going to watch them right away. I started Queen High and it's a pretty cute movie so far!

Ginger on the BIG SCREEN!

In exactly 7 days I will be seeing not only Bachelor Mother on the big screen, but SWING TIME as well!! I am beyond excited!!!!! I can't even express myself!! I can't wait to see my favourite Fred and Ginger movie with my favourite [Never Gonna] Dance in it, and my favourite dress!!!!!! I need a good outfit. The theatre looks old style and apparently there's a huge poster outside advertising Swing Time. I plan on getting as many photos of the place as possible! I have to take a plane flight to get to the theatre, but I don't care - it was worth the money to me!!! Especially because a movie ticket there is only $5.

Ginger: Pre-code Edition

This is a video I made of stills of some of Ginger's pre-code movies.

I absolutely love her style in a lot of her early 30s movies too!

Suicide Fleet & Change of Heart

It took me about 5 days to finish this movie. :/
The beginning looked promising, I mean:

But then it became scene after scene of the boys. They were entertaining at times, but enough with the boys! If you watch it just for Ginger, I would just watch the first part until the boys sail off. It's obvious which guy Ginger will pick.

Now onto Change of Heart... one reason this movie was amazing was because Ginger wore the BEST outfit in the last scene!

That's the one I'm talking about! Now I'm off to try to find it. :)
Also, Ginger is pretty evil in this movie. I don't know how that sits with you.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ginger!
I have got some videos, the first with a very important song:

Then the next with my current favourite song:

I'm coming back tomorrow because I have more things to say.

I dare you to find...

...Hat Check Girl (1932). If you find this movie, first of all I will be bubbling with joy and delight, then I will give you a huge present! You'd think it would be easier for me to locate items being in the epicenter of where all the "magic" (haha) happened, but no. :(

Lauren

3 New Ones!!

I now own A Night In A Dormitory (1930), The First Traveling Saleslady (1956), and Oh Men! Oh Women! (1957). I just watched A Night In A Dormitory, and the comedy seems a bit forced, but it's a short which is worth the watch to see Ginger's two numbers at the end. David Niven is in Oh Men! Oh Women! so I'm excited to watch that one! I don't know much about The First Traveling Saleslady but I hope it's good.

Crossing off like crazy!

Upperworld

I saw Upperworld the other day. Overall it was a good movie, although the second half had me a little depressed. I thought Ginger's clothing was amazing in the movie. I especially like her outfit in this clip I posted on YouTube:

Her make up is nicely done as well!

Lauren

Updates!

I've collected about 10 more Ginger films.
If you notice, I'm starting to have more than I've seen. I decided I am going to spread out my viewing of the films, so I'm mainly working on possessing them right now.

I also realized that there are movies I have, just not on DVD, but I'm going to cross those off the list anyway as HAD.
